Depression Chic and designers like Alberta Ferretti are not the only ones featuring trends, with a modern twist, of decades gone by. All the little fashionistas around the world know that they can look to designers like Ann Demuelemeester to see the latest, most cutting edge fashion. Like Alexander McQueen, she is eclectic, innovative, and truly avant garde. She is original and unfailingly has her finger on the pulse of tomorrow’s whims and the future’s trends. She could, perhaps should, in fact, be considered a trend setter.

For instance, it will be a surprise if her Vaudeville inspired version of the little black dress does not become the new trend on upscale cocktail parties and even younger red carpet functions.

It is not quite like a flapper dress, though some of the inspirations are clearly the same. The drop waist, however, is part of a subtly different era, and is more classic than ostentatiously glamorous.

They say if you wait a few decades — sometimes it only takes two, sometimes it takes five, sometimes it even takes as many as eight decades — every trend will come back in style. Sadly, it seems like some of the less fortunate trends (shoulder pads and leg warmers, anyone?) came back much too soon, while we have been waiting for years for the really classy ones to make a comeback.

But thanks be to whatever fashion deities rule the Mount Olympus of style, because flapper chic is finally coming back into the mainstream.

While this might seem as far from the Depression Era as you can possibly get, I must invite all of you to both read (or reread, as it were) The Great Gatsby and to see the film version starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. Spring is a time for color and that all holds true whenever you are dealing with makeup. Personally, I think that makeup is something that changes over time and over the seasons and while in the summer the red lip might not be popular, during the spring it is going to be! Whether you are looking for Scarlet, Cherry, Carmine, Ruby – all of these colors are in style this season and it does not matter which brand you get, as long as it is red!

Personally, I love the classic red lip. I think that it looks incredible, is absolutely appealing in all of the right ways and if you do it right and pick the right shade for your skin tone; you can definitely attract some incredible men … or women if you like.

So come on, pull out your little black dress and pair it with some red lips!

Makeup For This Season: Spring Is Coming Up!

One of the biggest things that people forget when they think of fashion is going to be makeup! Cosmetics are honestly what pulls an entire look together and if you are not the type of person that wears a lot of makeup, that’s okay! You just need to wear a little bit and keep with the season and you’ll see just how beautiful you really, really can be! Honestly! Makeup for this season, with spring rapidly approaching is going to be light, airy and definitely jam-packed with colors!

Take this picture for example; this picture is just one of the many looks that people are looking to achieve in spring, the colors just pop, the beautiful way her lips look and the eye shadow just tugs this entire look together!

This look is not very hard to achieve and it is definitely worth it on all counts! The reds and pinks are very in this season and if you have yet to get your makeup for spring, you should invest in some of these colors!

Should You Save Your Outdated Fashion?

I thought that I would take a moment to prove the old adage that if you hold on to a fashion piece long enough, it will come back into style. These photos are from two separate designers, and from years apart. They are so similar that if you bought the first one in 2005, you could surely wear it again in the coming Spring months and people will burst over how “in style” you are. The first is a Balenciaga from the Fall/Winter 2005 Collection. The second is from the Lanvin Spring/Summer 2008 collection. Notice how similar they are. It just goes to show that designs never really go out of style, they just hibernate for a bitJ

The Oligio Tissew Spring/Summer line is fabulous. It’s filled with sporty and fun looks and beautiful colors for the coming warm months. From the lilac purples to the printed shirts, everything is gorgeous. And the models all look as if they really enjoy wearing these designs, which I think is very important. After all, if they don’t look good, we don’t look good, right? Anyway, I love the boots with the shorts. That is a very sexy look. Overall this catwalk show seemed to be a huge hit. Even the oversized floppy hats looked great!
